LHS E-Sports Club
FAQ
Q: What is the Esports Club?A: We are a club that aims to create a thriving community of gamers for beginners, experienced players, and all who are interested in the gaming world. Through the common interest of gaming, students can gain important skills, like leadership, teamwork, strategic thinking, and improved reflexes, as well as social skills and connections. We also focus on bringing opportunities for students to compete in tournaments with an E-sports team. Here's a YouTube video that runs it down:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0zWiUGrzBk Q: So why does this club exist in the first place?A: As stated before, E-sports is a booming industry, and we're opening the possibilities to grow faster than the other schools around us. More importantly, by growing faster, the club will hopefully grow to become an opportunity for more than just us. (Which is already has through the sport!)
Q: I've been hearing a lot about announcements... but I haven't been getting themA: Just turn on private messages from people on the server. We send all our announcements out via @E-Sports Bot (discord bot). We also send anouncements through the E-Sports GroupMe:
https://groupme.com/join_group/34523102/Od85D0 Not only that, starting from the year 2018, we'll be pushing out announcements to emails! So make sure to sign up on the membership page for that. Please note that we try to keep all announcements important. If you feel as if we are abusing how often we send announcements, please let us know! Q: Any rules for this club?A: You are mostly free do what you want, but we ask that you use basic common sense to denote what is pushing the "unspoken rules" and what isn't.
This does not apply to the esports sport. Q: Who is on the club board btw? And can I get in?A: Anyone who's got a role minus the coordinators and chat-mods (on discord). Coordinators and chat-mods are not officers of the club unless they've got a secondary role specifying a different role in the club. If you need more info, check out the club constitution in the information tab. And no. We're not currently looking for any officers. You may be able to become a coordinator though. Pm/dm @Co-Presidents for questions (all in discord or through the contact tab).

Q: Why does Esports even matter in the first place?A: It matters because it's the next big thing in the sports industry. That's the generic answer. It matters to us because, as students, we are supposed to pursue our passions. People state that kids who game may become "addicted" or "obsessive"; however, for what sport do you see professional who aren't "addicted" or "obsessive". Obviously, our goal isn't to endorse the overuse or to abuse the time that could be spent studying on gaming. Rather, we exist to help facilitate a common hobby among the students of our school in a healthy manner while providing the necessary stepping stones for pursing a potential line of work in this subject.
Q: So why bother joining this school's Esports Club?A: This club actually doubles as both a casual gaming club and a competitive E-sports club. We'll have some casual gaming stuff setup soon to cater to your video game needs. If you're here to play competitively, we've got a variety of games to choose from (go check out the Competitive Players info!). Not only that, the club is a great way to get into the sport, and both the sport and club can potentially earn you a scholarship. Additionally, we work with the state sponsored sport to make esports official to the colleges you may be applying for.
Q: What's the invite link to the discord?Q: Would I be able to use Discord 3 A.M. on a school night?A: Yes. Frankly, we don't care when you use it. Please just respect others and refrain from overstepping while acknowledging that this is technically a school discord.
Q: This Discord and GroupMe feels so empty...A: Surprise! You can invite anyone you want to the server to make this place as exciting as you want it to be, as long as the rules are followed.
Q: How active are the club officers and coordinators of this club?A: We do our best to be active as much as possible, but believe it or not, we also have daily lives.
Over the course of this year, we have been a little inactive; however, this has been because of most of our staff consisting of seniors and complications between the sport and the club. We understand that we have not been as active as we should be, and we plan to fix it by the end of winter break this year (2018). Q: Hey! Where's League?A: Our school (Lambert High School) offers League of Legends as an official state-sanctioned sport. Because of its relation to GHSA, a "blanket-rule" states that we cannot have any game that GHSA/NFHS and PlayVS offer as a game in the club. If you would like more information, please join the discord or use the button to be redirected to the "Contact Us" page.
Q: I'm a bit confused and still have lots of questions to ask.A: Pm/dm anyone on the club board. We'd all be happy to help. If one of us can't answer a question well enough for you, ask @David (in discord) or email us!
